"My name is Winnie Cheung. As an immigrant I was lucky enough to get right back into my profession within months of settling down in Vancouver shortly after Expo '86. While I was aware of systemic racism, I couldn't imagine the pain reported by my BIPOC students & colleagues, until one day on Broadway in broad daylight when a clean-shaven well-built white guy towered over me and shouted: "Go back where you come from!" Such in-your-face racism was totally unprovoked. I was targeted simply because of the colour of my skin. Racism is real and has always been there lurking in the dark, waiting to come out screaming insults at those who look "different". Let's stand together to end racism."
We are excited to announce @pchc.mom’s new virtual story gathering project "From Far and Wide: Pacific Canada Stories"!
