Ancestors in Our Attics by Catherine Clement

At the start of Asian Heritage Month, May 1 2021, community curator Catherine Clement explored how stories of migration have been rediscovered and brought back to life through objects found, yet forgotten, in our homes. Through her decade-long, ground-breaking work collecting the hidden photographs of Vancouver Chinatown’s first and most prolific photographer, Yucho Chow – to her current project locating surviving C.I. documents used to monitor, control and intimidate early Chinese in Canada – Catherine showed how each piece helps reveal a rich story.

The event featured remarks from The Honourable Dr. Vivienne Poy and was MC’ed by CBC’s Gloria Macarenko.

After a successful event, Gloria Macarenko had PCHC President Wendy Yip on “On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko” to discuss stories of Asian migration to Canada’s west coast.
